Viewster enables landmark VoD Scandi Film Fest.
The technology behind Viewster, the on-demand movie distribution
service operated by DIVA AG, will help power the first ever
on-demand festival of Scandinavian cinema, available to North
American television audiences via cable and satellite from May 1st,
2011.
The First Annual Scandinavian On Demand Film Festival is a three-
way collaboration partnering the Viewster technology with Nordisk
Film & TV Fond (which encourages and promotes film production
and distribution across the five countries of the Scandi region),
and on-demand movie channel Eurocinema.
"We are delighted to employ the technology behind our successful
Viewster service to help create this prestigious and landmark
on-demand Festival of Scandinavian cinema," says Kai Henniges, CEO
of DIVA AG. "Viewster itself is all about making outstanding movie
content available to audiences on-demand, and we are pleased to
work with our existing partners Nordisk Film & TV Fond and
Eurocinema on this exciting first."
Viewster's multi-staged distribution ensures wide exposure for film
makers.
The Scandi festival underscores the recent surge in popularity of
Scandinavian films, fueled by the success of the blockbuster titles
making up the Millennium Trilogy by Swedish author Stieg Larsson
(The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - BAFTA Award 2011, Best Foreign
Language Film; The Girl Who Played With Fire; and The Girl Who
Kicked The Hornet's Nest), which have grossed hundreds of millions
in worldwide box office sales.
When the Scandi Fest opens on May 1st, it will premiere four
critically acclaimed, contemporary Scandinavian titles, featuring
such top names including Lena Endre and Michael Nyqvist (The Girl
With The Dragon Tattoo), Bryan Brown (F/X, Australia), Tuva Novotny
(Eat, Pray, Love; Slim Susie) and Thure Lindhardt (Angels and
Demons). Eight additional titles will be added in June and July,
direct from their debuts on the international festival
circuit.
Viewers across Canada and north America will be able to enjoy the
Scandi Fest until 1 November 2011 via Eurocinema's cable and
satellite channel, with the sophisticated Viewster engine handling
all billing and reporting.
Viewster plans exciting new on-demand Festivals.
"Our involvement in the Scandi Fest paves the way for the exciting
program of future on-demand Festivals to be staged via Viewster
itself," explained Henniges. "Viewster users around the world can
look forward to Festivals celebrating the best of World Cinemas,
Documentaries, other important genres and influential movie
cultures."
